THANBYUZAYAT Township in Mon State has jointly won the third prize in the 2026 ASEAN Smoke-Free Awards, along with Depok in Indonesia, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, Pasig in the Philippines and Maha Sarakham in Thailand. George Town, Malaysia, won second prize, while Baguio in the Philippines took the first prize.
Awards were presented at the 17th ASEAN Health Ministers Meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Dr Myat Wunna Soe, Director-General of the Department of Public Health, accepted the third prize on behalf of the Ministry of Health.
The Ministry of Health is working with partners and social organizations to combat smoking and tobacco use and establish smoke-free areas under the Control of Smoking and Consumption of Tobacco Products Law (2006), aiming to protect the public from the harmful effects of tobacco smoke.
