THREE Thai nationals wanted for drug-related offences in Thailand and hiding in Tachilek have been arrested and handed over to Thai authorities via the Myanmar-Thailand Friendship Bridge I, according to the Myanmar Police Force.
The suspects, identified as Mr Boy Lueansiri, Ms Kulapom Makvemal and Mrs Chonlanat, also known as Budsanee Insuwan, were arrested in Tachilek on 11 and 17 July by a cambined team comprising members of the Drug Enforcement Division and Shan State police force. They were subsequently ordered to be deported under Section 7(2) of the Immigration (Emergency Provisions) Act and handed over to a delegation led by Police Major Suriya Singhakamol, Secretary-General of Thailand’s Office of the Narcotics Control Board, at the Myanmar-Thailand border on 10 September.
In a separate operation, six other Thai nationals wanted for drug-related and other offences, and those found staying in Tachilek without valid documents, were also deported and handed over to Thai immigration authorities. The handovers were carried out under the bilateral Myanmar-Thailand cooperation mechanism for drug control, which facilitates information sharing, arrests and the transfer of wanted offenders who cross the border to evade law enforcement.
The cooperation is expected to further strengthen bilateral ties and enhance efforts to combat cross-border drug-related and transnational crimes.
