A Bailey bridge was built for temporary use at the collapsed bridge on the road that connects Laymyethna, Aithapyu and Ngathaingchaung, and the public can use it starting from 5 August, said the Ayeyawady Region government.
The bridge no 1/6 between 5 miles and 5 miles 1 furlong was destroyed in the strong current caused by the leakage of Ngawun embankment on 3 August in Laymyethna Township.
Under the instruction of the regional chief minister, a bailey bridge was built shortly after, as a temporary substitute, so that public transport wouldn’t be interrupted when the water descends.
President Office’s Spokesperson Dr Khine Khine Soe said that, according to statistics collected on the evening of 4 August, 7,734 houses with 7,858 families in 5 urban wards and 106 villages, totalling 32,607 people, were affected by the flood in Laymyethna Township.
