DUE to the Deep Depression that crossed near Kyaikto, rain or thundershowers will be scattered in eight regions and seven states, including Nay Pyi Taw, from yesterday morning through 1 October, according to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH).
The Deep Depression brought heavy rainfall as it passed over Yangon on Monday evening, causing waterlogging and flooding on some roads in Yangon and several townships. The water receded within a few hours after the rain stopped, although light rain continued intermittently during the night.
The Deep Depression downgraded into a Land Depression is centred about 30 miles South-Southeast of Pyu, 60 miles South-Southeast of Toungoo and 120 miles South-Southeast of Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.
The Land Depression near Pyu has been classified as the Brown Stage. It is forecast to continue moving north-northwestward over the next 36 hours. Thunderstorms are likely to occur in various areas of Taninthayi, Ayeyawady, Yangon, Bago, Nay Pyi Taw, Mandalay, Sagaing, Magway, Mon, Kayin, Kayah, Kachin, Chin, Rakhine and Shan, and the DMH also announced that weather phenomena such as strong winds accompanied by rain, thunder, lightning and hail may occur; therefore, it is recommended to be aware of these phenomena. Wave height will be about 9-11 feet off and along the Myanmar Coasts.

Yangon remained cloudy yesterday due to the influence of the Land Depression, although no rainfall was reported and wind conditions remained relatively calm.
On Monday night, local administrative authorities issued warnings to residents in townships near rivers and streams to remain alert to possible flooding and strong winds caused by the depression. — Thitsa (MNA)/KTZH
