THE clearance of buildings damaged by the Mandalay earthquake is approximately 80 per cent complete in Mandalay and about 50 per cent complete in Sagaing, according to the Myanmar Fire Brigade Headquarters.
The main roads of Mandalay, which were damaged by the earthquake, have been cleared of building debris to prevent road blockages and ensure the safety of road users, with the clearance of the Golden City building completed on 1 May. The clearance of damaged buildings along 26th streets from 75th to 82nd streets has been completed for two buildings, bringing the overall clearance of earthquake-damaged buildings in Mandalay to more than 80 per cent.
Similarly, in the ongoing cleanup of buildings damaged by the earthquake in Sagaing, heavy machinery has been reported to have been used to remove the debris of high-rise buildings, such as large Buddhist learning centres and other religious structures on higher ground, resulting in 50 per cent completion. — ASH/ TH
