A total of 1,476 verified Myanmar nationals who were facing hardship and unable to afford to return to Myanmar after serving their respective sentences in immigration detention camps for illegal stay and violation of immigration regulations were repatriated from Malaysian immigration detention camps by Myanmar naval vessels.
Mottama, Thanlwin and Sinphyushin vessels departed Yangon on 24 September and arrived at Lumut Port, Malaysia, on the morning of 28 September.
During the return voyage on the night of 29 September, the repatriated nationals were provided with accommodation, medical care, daily meals, recreational activities, exercise sessions, clothing and personal necessities by naval personnel and representatives of relevant ministries.
Vessels entered Myanmar territorial waters on the morning of 1 October. The returning nationals expressed their happiness and gratitude as they received a message welcoming them back home.
Naval vessels are expected to arrive in Yangon within the next few days. Relevant regional and state authorities, together with the returnees’ family members, will be waiting at the port to welcome them and arrange transport to their respective hometowns so that they can reunite with their families as soon as possible. Further assistance will also be provided to help them live peacefully with their families in Myanmar.
