Peace is important to every individual and is a fundamental necessity for all people. Peace does not simply mean the absence of conflict; it also encompasses mutual respect, equality and equal opportunities.
Peace plays a vital role in ensuring human well-being and a better quality of life. In peaceful countries, people can engage in economic activities with confidence, while social stability is strengthened. Progress and development can also be achieved in the education and healthcare sectors. Furthermore, peace promotes greater cultural understanding among people. Societies cannot thrive without mutual respect, love and care.
Peace serves as a fundamental foundation for people to work together toward the development of the world. Therefore, everyone has a responsibility to maintain peace. To promote peace, every individual must begin by communicating without hostility and showing mutual respect. Only by bringing together the aspirations for peace of people from all walks of life can we transform the world into a truly valuable place for everyone. It is important to recognize that peace is essential to every individual and is a value that must be preserved.
In countries where peace is absent, it is evident that children are unable to receive an education, women and older people face poor health, and economic decline and poverty occur. In today’s world, political disputes, conflicts and armed attacks continue to undermine peace. Nevertheless, the majority of people are making concerted efforts with a strong commitment to achieving peace.
Since gaining independence, successive governments of Myanmar have made efforts to end internal armed conflicts and achieve stability and peace. However, terrorists have continued to disrupt and destroy, through various means over successive periods, the human resources, national economy and infrastructure essential for the country’s development. As a result, efforts to promote national development have repeatedly faced setbacks in the course of nation-building, creating a major historical lesson for the country.
Nevertheless, the Government and the Tatmadaw have consistently kept their doors open and extended invitations for all parties to participate in efforts to achieve internal stability and peace. Therefore, all relevant stakeholders should work for the success of peace talks by considering the interests of the country, seeking what is possible and negotiating on what is not possible.
To successfully implement the theme of the 2026 International Day of Peace, “Invest in Peace – For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day”, which calls on us all to do our part for peace, everyone needs to work together to ensure that people around the world enjoy the fruits of peace.
