AS Myanmar has a large Buddhist population, the influence of Buddhist teachings can be seen in almost every aspect of society. Likewise, followers of the major religions of Hinduism, Christianity and Islam also observe Myanmar’s traditions and customs and can be seen actively participating in charitable activities, which are widely practised by the majority of the people.
The United Nations stated that charity, when rooted in equity and ethics, is more than generosity: it’s a powerful act of global responsibility. It connects people across borders and sectors to confront poverty, uplift communities, and build a more inclusive and sustainable world for everyone.
Charity at its core is an expression of global solidarity. It brings people together to build more just and resilient societies, whether through direct giving, volunteering, or collective action. Beyond immediate aid, charity strengthens healthcare, education, cultural preservation, and the protection of vulnerable groups. Today, charity and philanthropy alike are evolving to address the deeper causes of poverty and inequality.
In Myanmar, people from all ethnic and religious backgrounds readily extend wholehearted assistance to those in need, without discrimination and with genuine goodwill. They all focus on the accomplishment to fulfill the needs of needy people. Those charity organizations do not hope for any response and reflection from their efforts to assist others. Actually, members of those charity organizations are keen to provide aid for needy persons and are delighted with their efforts, which effectively contribute to needy areas or people. In this regard, some members of the charity organizations sacrificed their lives in critical conditions.

This is because charity can help fulfil the physical and mental needs of others. As such, all the people of Myanmar need to uphold charity to restore lasting peace across the nation.
