HOSPITALS operating Dog-Bite Centres in Yangon Region, including Thingangyun General Hospital have sufficient supplies of rabies vaccines and are providing healthcare services, according to U Bo Htay, Yangon Region Government’s Minister for Social Affairs.
He said ARV rabies vaccines are provided free of charge to patients with ordinary dog bite injuries, while RIG is administered free of charge to patients with severe wounds or suspected rabies exposure.
The Ministry of Health is responsible for purchasing and distributing the vaccines and maintains the required cold-chain system during storage and transportation. Hospitals also submit monthly requests before their supplies run out to prevent shortages. A Dog-Bite Centre operates at the Emergency and Outpatient Department of Thingangyun General Hospital, providing free rabies vaccinations to dog bite patients.
The centre treats an average of about 80 patients daily and more than 2,000 patients monthly. From January through the end of July 2026, the centre administered rabies vaccines to about 15,000 patients.
