Organizing traditional Myanmar food competitions and exhibitions not only helps present Myanmar’s traditional cuisine at international standards, but also serves as an opportunity to promote and raise global awareness of Myanmar’s culinary heritage, said Nan Ni Ni Aye, Vice-President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, at the opening of the Tastes of the Golden Land 2026 Mandalay at the Mandalay Convention Centre yesterday morning.
In her speech, the Vice-President underlined that just as Myanmar has diverse cultures across different regions and ethnicities, it also possesses a wide variety of unique and appealing culinary styles, indicating substantial potential for the country to develop Gastronomy Tourism, a trend that is increasingly popular worldwide today.
She noted that the food competition and exhibition held in Mandalay is an opportunity to more widely showcase the unique traditional dishes, local products, and modern culinary creations of Upper Myanmar.
The Vice-President underlined that Myanmar’s traditional culinary culture will be spotlighted for the world to know by artistically and deliciously innovating traditional Myanmar foods through cooking.
Union Minister for Hotels, Tourism and Culture U Maung Myint explained the purpose of hosting the competition and show.
The Vice-President and party presented certificates of appreciation to main sponsors and other sponsors who made efforts to host the competition.
The Vice-President visited the booths of the competition and show.
A total of 11 contending teams took part in the competitions held till 23 August, with 141 booths to showcase Myanmar foodstuffs. — MNA/TTA
