A mass walk and sporting events were held at Wunna Theikdhi Sports Ground in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning to mark the 59th ASEAN Day as part of the 2026 ASEAN Sports Day celebrations.
Union Minister for Sports and Myanmar Olympic Committee Chairman U Ye Myint Tun delivered the opening address and joined Deputy Minister U Nyi Nyi and other participants in the mass walk.
The sporting events included men’s and women’s 100-metre, 200-metre, 400-metre and 800-metre races, 200-metre and 400-metre relay races, and a tug-ofwar competition. Prizes and gifts were presented to winners and participants who correctly answered ASEAN-related quiz questions. The Union minister and his delegation also visited archery athletes from the Gold Camp training in Nay Pyi Taw for the 34th South-East Asian Games and presented cash awards to two Recurve and Compound archers who recorded the highest training scores. — MNA/KZL
