Myanmar’s Pawsan rice has won the World’s Best Rice Award at the International World Rice Conference 2026, organized by the US-based International Commodity Institute, The Rice Trader in Manila, the Philippines. The conference featured various international rice varieties and a rice quality competition. Myanmar’s Pawsan rice previously won the World’s Best Rice Award at the International Rice Conference, rice exhibition and competition held in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, in 2011. This is the second time that Myanmar’s Pawsan rice has received the World Best Rice Award. In line with the slogan, “A New Era for Myanmar’s Pawsan Rice”, this international recognition is a great achievement. Special thanks are extended to the Government, ministries, Pawsan rice farmers, agricultural experts, researchers, rice millers, traders, companies and all those who have worked together to achieve this success. Their continued cooperation and efforts are highly appreciated.
A total of 55 delegates, including a government-private sector export promotion delegation from the Ministry of Commerce and the Myanmar Rice Federation, along with rice-exporting companies, attended the International Rice Conference and related discussions and exhibitions held in Manila, the Philippines, from 7 to 10 October 2026. U Ye Min Aung, President of the Myanmar Rice Federation, participated in a discussion under the title “Myanmar Rice Outlook 2026” and Myanmar’s rice exhibition booth was also set up at the event. During the visit, discussions were held on increasing rice exports to the Philippines, Malaysia and African countries. Participating companies also held negotiations to secure sales contracts. In accordance with the guidance of the government, the Myanmar Rice Federation is working to achieve the export target of three million tonnes of high-quality agricultural rice products in the 2026-2027 financial year. The Federation is making efforts through the private sector to meet and exceed this target.
