OFFICIALS from the Mon State Office of Region 8, Department of Water Resources and Improvement of River System, are carrying out emergency bank erosion protection works between bridge piers K12 and K13 of Thanlwin Bridge (Chaungzon) in Chaungzon Township.

Mon State Chief Minister U Aung Win Than and state ministers inspected the ongoing works yesterday and gave necessary instructions to officials concerned to ensure that the project is completed on time and in accordance with quality standards within the designated financial year, that it is durable and sustainable, and that workplace safety is ensured.

The bank erosion protection project, involving the installation of 1,000 feet of Bamboo Floating Units, is being implemented with K40 million allocated from the Mon State government’s budget for the 2026-2027 financial year.

The chief minister also inspected the maintenance of the turf, and stands of the township stadium and the gymnasium in Chaungzon Township. He gave instructions to ensure the long-term sustainability and systematic maintenance of sports grounds and sports halls, facilitate sports training and raise sporting standards, and maintain cleanliness and adequate lighting in the surrounding areas.

The chief minister and party also watched an Under-18 Inter-Basic Education High School Men’s Football Tournament match between the Kwanthae Zone Football Team and the Muritkalay Zone Football Team. – Sithu (IPRD)/KTZH
