FLOOD relief and rescue efforts are continuing in Laymyethna, Hinthada, Yekyi, Ngathainggyoung, Kyonpyaw and Kyaunggon townships and surrounding villages in Ayeyawady Region.
On the night of 30 July 2026, heavy rainfall and riverbank erosion caused a breach in the Ngawun River embankment, resulting in flooding. As of today, floodwaters have affected 15 urban wards and 201 villages across the affected townships.
Personnel from the South-West Command, Myanmar Police Force, Fire Services Department, social rescue and charitable organisations, together with local communities, are conducting search and rescue operations, providing food and medical assistance, and operating relief camps for affected people.
Efforts are also being stepped up to control and protect the water inlet at Ngawun embankment by installing geobags and sandbags within bamboo barriers and steel sheet piles.
Officials from the South-West Command have inspected the ongoing operations and are coordinating the necessary assistance. — MNA/KZL
