FUTURE cooperation and the advancement of women’s affairs between Belarus and Myanmar were discussed at a meeting between Union Minister for Women’s Affairs Dr Thet Thet Zin and a delegation led by Ms Olga Chemodanova, Chairperson of the Belaya Rus Party of Belarus.
The meeting was held at the Ministry of Women’s Affairs yesterday afternoon. Dr Thet Thet Zin said that women account for about 53 per cent of Myanmar’s population and that promoting the development of rural and young women is a priority. She highlighted the implementation of the National Strategic Plan for the Advancement of Women, which focuses on women’s development and the prevention of violence. She further stated that the Ministry of Women’s Affairs was established to strengthen the capacity of women and girls and promote social security.
She also expressed Myanmar’s willingness to learn from other countries’ experiences in promoting women’s development and preventing violence.
Ms Olga Chemodanova stressed the need for awareness programmes to educate women about protecting their families and children and maintaining good health.
