MYANMAR is hosting the 37th Meeting of ASEAN Senior Officials on Environment (ASOEN) and Related Meetings virtually from 10 to 13 August.
The opening ceremony was held at the Parkroyal Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw on 10 August. Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Hsan Oo called for closer ASEAN cooperation to address environmental challenges, including climate change, plastic pollution, biodiversity loss and transboundary haze pollution.
ASEAN Chair and Philippine Department of Environment and Natural Resources Undersecretary for Policy, Planning and International Affairs, Attorney Jonas R Leones, also delivered opening remarks online.
Deputy Minister Dr Thaung Naing Oo and officials attended the opening ceremony, while senior environmental officials from ASEAN member states, chairs of the working groups, and representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat, the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity and the ASEAN Specialized Meteorological Centre joined virtually. — MNA/KZL
