Indian Ambassador to Myanmar Mr Abhay Thakur concluded a working visit to Myeik District, Taninthayi Region, aimed at strengthening regional economic collaboration and engaging with the local Indian diaspora.
During the visit on 9 August, Ambassador Mr Abhay Thakur met senior district officials and local business leaders to discuss expanding trade and economic cooperation. He inspected regional production processes firsthand, touring local seafood facilities, a mineral processing plant, and an edible bird’s nest production factory.
The ambassador also attended a Diaspora Outreach Event in Myeik on 8 August, which drew more than 500 members of the local Indian community. Addressing the gathering, the ambassador highlighted key initiatives for the diaspora, including Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) services, ICCR scholarships, the Know India Programme, and the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign. The event featured traditional Indian Bharatanatyam dance and musical performances by instructors from the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre.
Additionally, the ambassador paid homage at historic religious landmarks in Myeik, offering flowers, water, and oil lamps at the Atula Shwethalyaung Reclining Buddha and Laykyun Hsemee Pagoda.
