The Government of Myanmar officially handed over 40 volumes of the Pitaka (Buddhist Canon) and 51 volumes of Commentaries (Atthakatha) to the Buddhist Archives of Luang Prabang in Laos during a ceremony held on 31 July 2026.
The handover ceremony took place at the Luang Prabang Provincial Buddhist Archives. The event was attended by Myanmar Ambassador to Laos U Aung Ko, representatives of the Lao Front for National Development in Luang Prabang Province, provincial government officials, representatives of the Lao Buddhist Fellowship Organization, Buddhist monks, and diplomats from the Myanmar Embassy in Vientiane.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, these sacred Theravada scriptural texts will be preserved at the archives as valuable reference materials for monks, scholars, researchers, and future generations. The donation is intended to strengthen the longstanding religious and cultural ties between Myanmar and Laos, promote the heritage of Theravada Buddhism, and foster closer friendship between the peoples of the two countries.
