All the people need to promote the use of solar energy to improve socioeconomic development. Electricity is an indispensable source of energy not only for industrial, agricultural, trade and service sectors, but also for the daily lives of the people.
Therefore, the Government is making efforts through various means to ensure sufficient electricity supply, which is crucial for the development of the nation and the improvement of the socioeconomic lives of the people. Currently, Myanmar’s electricity generation mainly relies on hydropower and natural gas. While climate change has posed challenges to hydropower generation, instability in global energy prices has also become a matter of concern for the country’s energy security. Therefore, it is necessary to further develop renewable energy sources to ensure long-term energy security.
The use of solar energy derived from sunlight can not only meet electricity demand but also plays an important role in environmental conservation, reducing fuel consumption and lowering carbon emissions. In addition, solar power systems have advantages such as low operating costs, ease of maintenance, and accessibility in rural areas where the national power grid has not yet reached. Therefore, they can contribute to improving the socioeconomic lives of the people and supporting regional development. As solar energy is an inexhaustible renewable energy source, it is also an important option for ensuring future energy security.
Myanmar is a country with excellent potential for solar energy due to its geographical location. Therefore, the Government is encouraging the implementation of solar power projects that are compatible with the country’s natural resources, with the aim of increasing the contribution of solar power to the national energy sector. The Government is implementing solar power projects to integrate appropriate solar power systems into the national grid and enable individuals or communities to install and use Solar Home Systems according to their own plans.
A workshop on solar energy, aimed at ensuring that solar power systems make a significant contribution to the country’s electricity consumption, was held in Nay Pyi Taw on 15 July. During the workshop, participants discussed and sought solutions to the technological limitations and management challenges currently being encountered. As a result, effective measures and projects will be implemented rapidly.
As solar energy is an important resource for the country’s energy security, long-term sustainable development and the improvement of socioeconomic conditions, the private sector and the public are encouraged to work together, under the leadership of the State, to promote the wider utilization of solar power.
