FOR tour guides who faced licence revocation for failing renewal, the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism under the Ministry of Hotels, Tourism and Culture will continue tour guide training course batch 13 in July.
The training duration is from 16 to 25 July and along with required documents, applications can be submitted in person to the disciplinary and training section of the Centre for Tourism Development (CTD) or by sending email to tts.yangon@gmail.com.
Tour guides must have official licence provided by the government and unlicensed guides will face three-year imprisonment and K50,000 fine under the rules and regulations of the hotels and tourism law.
If unlicensed local guides are found, complaints can be submitted to the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism with complete evidence. The licence validity is at least two years but it is allowed renewal for four years for tour guides who paused the operation for a temporary period, said the directorate.
At present, local tour guide training courses are provided in Mandalay, Bagan, Taunggyi, Kengtung and Tachilek. Under official statistics for previous years, tour guide licences were issued for more than 1,600 trainees completed respective local guide training courses and more than 3,700 trainees from tourism training courses, totalling more than 5,000.
