The Yangon General Hospital has made preparations to treat patients with minor fevers during the Thingyan period in Yangon Region, according to its Emergency Department.
Similarly, the hospital has opened special treatment rooms for heatstroke patients to provide emergency care during the Thingyan festival.
In addition, the Emergency Department has arranged to provide healthcare services to people participating in the Thingyan festival, including emergency treatment in case of accidents, as well as care for those with minor illnesses.
“Yangon General Hospital has prepared treatment protocols, medicines, and special facilities for heat-related illnesses. During the Thingyan period, children, the elderly, people with chronic diseases, and those who consume alcohol or drugs are more likely to suffer from heat-related conditions. As private clinics are closed during the festival, we have also made arrangements to treat general patients,” said an official from the hospital’s Emergency Department.
As daytime temperatures continue to rise, heat exhaustion can lead to dehydration and increased body temperature, causing dizziness, excessive sweating, nausea, and vomiting, while severe heatstroke may result in loss of consciousness.
As the Thingyan Festival coincides with high temperatures, people are advised to avoid harmful ultraviolet rays. The Ministry of Health has urged the public to stay in shade areas such as trees, parks, pavilions, and buildings between 11 am and 4 pm, and to refrain from consuming alcohol, as it can increase body temperature and contribute to heat-related illnesses.
