The 22nd-day sitting of the third regular session of the Third Pyithu Hluttaw was convened at the Hluttaw building in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday, attended by Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker U Khin Yi, Deputy Speaker U Maung Maung Ohn, and members of Parliament.
During the session, deputy ministers addressed nine starred questions covering administrative upgrades, regional security and resettlement, private education oversight, legal curriculum implementation, and rural electrification. Regarding regional administration and security, Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Maj-Gen Min Thu clarified that Paleik Village-tract in Singaing Township cannot currently be upgraded to town status, as it fulfils only 16 of the 21 required town development criteria, lacking allocations for public parks, waste disposal, and cemetery zones. Addressing questions on Lawpita in Loikaw Township, Maj-Gen Min Thu stated that following the destruction of the local police station by armed groups in 2021, personnel remain deployed alongside military units; reconstruction of the station and staff quarters will be proposed in future budget years once regional stability is restored.
On the resettlement of displaced residents and the reopening of the Kyaukkyi-Natthankwin road in Kyaukkyi Township, the deputy minister explained that the road remains temporarily closed due to mine threats and ambush attacks. Civilian movements are currently facilitated via military convoys, and displaced families will be systematically vetted and resettled once security clearance and mine clearance operations are fully concluded.
Turning to education, Deputy Minister for Education U Nay Myo Hlaing stated that civic education, democratic practices, and basic law are actively integrated into middle and high school curricula, supported by Training of Trainers (ToT) courses for educators. He also affirmed that private schools are monitored to bar uncertified personnel, adding that non-compliant institutions face administrative penalties under Section 51 of the Private Education Law. Addressing rural infrastructure, Deputy Minister for Electricity and Energy U Aye Kyaw detailed plans for expanding electrical infrastructure. He confirmed that electricity supply to Gonmin Village in Kyaunggon Township will proceed once the 66-kV Kyaunggon (Hlezeik) substation is built using Union funds.
He also highlighted the ongoing deployment of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and line upgrades in Thakayta Township, as well as multi-phase rural grid installations slated for Mongnai Township across the 2028-2029 financial years. The 22nd-day sitting adjourned in the afternoon, with the 23rd-day session scheduled for 4 November.
