Efforts are underway to expand the market presence of Myanmar coffee in China as cooperation between the two countries in the coffee industry continues to strengthen, according to the Myanmar Coffee Association (MCA).
Myanmar’s coffee industry has grown rapidly in recent years and gained increasing recognition in international markets, an MCA official said.
“The association has signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with coffee training academies, coffee associations, and chambers of commerce in China’s Yunnan Province. We plan to expand business-to-business (B2B) channels to establish direct links for exporting and selling Myanmar’s high-quality Arabica and Robusta coffee in the Chinese market,” the official said.
In Myanmar, coffee is primarily cultivated in Shan State and Mandalay Region, with Arabica varieties grown in the highlands and Robusta varieties in the lowlands. The MCA is also working to attract Chinese investment in infrastructure development, including value-added processing plants, coffee-roasting facilities, and supply-chain logistics across the country. — ASH/TH
