Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker U Khin Yi met teachers and students from the Department of Law of Yangon University of Distance Education, led by Professor and Head of Department Dr Thi Thi Lwin, at the Thabin Hall of the Hluttaw Building yesterday afternoon.
In his remarks, U Khin Yi explained the roles and responsibilities of the Pyithu Hluttaw and its 22 committees, including legislation, representation of the people and coordination with the executive and judicial branches. He said existing laws were being reviewed to keep them relevant to current circumstances and noted that the Anti-Online Scam Law had been approved to enable effective action against online scams.
He encouraged the visiting law students to communicate with the Hluttaw on legal matters and issues requiring parliamentary action, stressing efforts to make the Hluttaw more accessible to the public and a reliable institution for the State and the people.
The teachers and students asked questions about Hluttaw procedures and other matters, which the Speaker answered in detail. Pyithu Hluttaw Deputy Speaker U Maung Maung Ohn, committee secretaries and members, and officials attended the meeting.
