BASIC education schools in Laymyethna Township, Ayeyawady Region, have reopened as floodwaters receded following flooding caused by water flowing through a breach in the Ngawun River embankment. Ayeyawady Region Chief Minister U Aye Kyaw inspected the resumption of classes at the Aithabyu Village Basic Education High School and provided support to the school and its students.
The chief minister urged education officials and teachers to arrange make-up lessons for classes missed during the temporary closure and encouraged students to continue their studies diligently. The school was provided with a water purification machine, rice and cooking oil.
He also inspected the resumption of monsoon paddy cultivation on flood-affected farmland in Yegyi, Ngathainggyoung and Laymyethna townships, drainage improvement works, and the reopening of public hospitals and basic education schools. Farmers whose paddy fields were damaged by the floods were provided with paddy and vegetable seeds.
In Laymyethna, he inspected drainage works along the town embankment and called for improved water flow and the removal of obstructions. He also visited Laymyethna People’s Hospital and the Aung Mingala Market to inspect rehabilitation and reopening activities. — IPRD/KZL
