Emergency repair work is currently underway to seal a water inflow path along a breached section of the Ngawun embankment in Laymyethna Township, Hinthada District, with response teams using heavy machinery and manual labour to lay sandbags bundled with nylon netting along the outer row to reinforce the structure.
Under the close supervision of the deputy minister for Construction and officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, crews are using specialized vessels and equipment to block the water inflow path. The operation involves steel sheet pile-driving barges, cranes equipped with standpipes, vessels for deploying geo-bags, and sand barges.
Ayeyawady Region Chief Minister U Aye Kyaw inspected the site yesterday morning. He coordinated the response based on current water flow rates and incorporated technical recommendations provided by experts from the Myanmar Engineering Council.
Following the site inspection, the chief minister met with flood-affected residents in Ward No 3 and Thakhutchaung Village tract in Laymyethna Township and assured them that joint recovery efforts would focus on rapidly repairing the damage, meeting their basic living and food needs, and restoring local livelihoods as floodwaters recede. In addition, the Regional Hluttaw representative offered words of encouragement, while a health official delivered health-awareness talks on snakebite prevention, diarrhoea control and vaccination campaigns before distributing rice rations and foodstuffs to the affected families. — MNA/TH
