A total of 153 buildings in Yangon Region that are at least 100 years old have been designated as heritage buildings, according to the Ministry of Hotels, Tourism and Culture.

A ceremony to install heritage plaques at the U Thant House Museum and Inwa Bank, among the designated buildings, was held at the respective sites on 18 August. Deputy Minister for Hotels, Tourism and Culture U Aye Tun and the Yangon Region Minister for Rakhine Ethnic Affairs attended the ceremony and installed the plaques.

Officials also inspected the restoration of statues of King Anawrahta, King Bayintnaung and King Alaungpaya at the National Museum (Yangon) in Dagon Township yesterday morning.

They also inspected the museum’s galleries featuring Myanmar script and manuscripts, the Yadnapon Period, urban culture, royal regalia, natural history, primates and fossils. — MNA/KZL
