AS of the end of the second week of May, the formation of monsoon in the Bay of Bengal will be greater, and the monsoon will enter Myanmar in mid-May, according to meteorologist U Win Naing.
Under the animation of the weather forecast from 9 to 23 May by the AIFS-ENS Model from the Tropical Tidbits, the cyclonic vorticity has been sharply stronger off the east coast of Sri Lanka, with a direction to the central Bay of Bengal, between 10 and 13 May, he said.
Between 14 and 18 May, cyclonic vorticity is expected to increase over the central and northern Bay of Bengal. Southwest winds are forecast to strengthen and flow more actively into the Bay after 13 May. The onset of the southwest monsoon over southern Myanmar, covering Taninthayi Region and the Andaman Sea, is expected between 14 and 17 May, guided by prevailing wind patterns.
The early monsoon’s rainfall will be widespread in southern Myanmar, the Delta and the Rakhine Coast, with expected high rainfall, between 15 and 23 May. At the beginning of the monsoon, the inland heat and the sea’s humidity will lead to more frequent thunderstorm formation, so lightning and strong winds require caution across Myanmar in mid-May, he said.
