On the full moon day of Kason (Buddha Day) in the Myanmar calendar year 1388, a ceremony was held yesterday evening at the precinct of the Uppatasanti Pagoda and the Maravijaya Buddha Park, featuring a candle-lighting procession.
The event began at the Taboung ground, where ministry staff and students set off to circumambulate the Uppatasanti Pagoda. They were accompanied by ceremonial vehicles depicting scenes from the life of the Buddha. From there, the procession, including the vehicles, staff, and students, proceeded to the Maravijaya Buddha Park.
Upon arrival, the ceremonial vehicles were stationed within the park for pilgrims to view and pay their respects. Holding religious flags and oil lamps, the staff and students followed a designated clockwise route, offering candlelight to the Maravijaya Buddha Image.
Following the procession, the participants poured water on the Maha Bodhi tree near the image before attending the Kason Full Moon religious ceremony. The event was graced by the presence of the Joint Secretary of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee, Yangon Region. The congregation respectfully listened to a Dhamma sermon delivered by the Venerable Aggamaha Pandita, the Administrator Sayadaw of the Maha Withodayon Shwegyin Taikthit Monastery.
In total, 1,200 staff and students from various ministries paid homage to the Uppatasanti Pagoda and the Maravijaya Buddha Image on this sacred day. — MNA/MKKS
