The second session of the ceremony to mark the 70th Anniversary of the Sixth Buddhist Council took place at the Maha Pasana Cave in Mayangon Township yesterday afternoon.

The Sayadaw of Maha Vihara Monastery in Hmawby Township, Union Minister for Religious Affairs U Tin Oo Lwin, Rector (Retd) of Nalanda University of India Maha Saddhamamajotikadhaja Dr Ravindapansi, Professor (Retd) of Colombo University of Sri Lanka Maha Saddhammajotika Dr Acingatikarane, the venerable Sayadaws from Bhutan, Nepal, Mexico, the United States and Indonesia read out the message to mark the Buddha Day.

Prominent Sayadaws from Myanmar also read out the message in honour of the Buddha Day.

Dr Bhaddanta Hsekinda, Rector of the International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University, explained the plans to stage the paper-reading session.

Sitagu Sayadaw Bhaddanta Nyanissara gave a concluding Katha.

In the evening, the Dhamma Thabin to mark the 70th Anniversary of the Sixth Buddhist Synod followed. Sitagu Sayadaw administered Dhamma Desana while well-wishers handed over cash for nine prerequisites to the lay person.

The Sitagu Sayadaw delivered a sermon, and the congregation shared merits gained. — MNA/TTA
