Families of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army, Navy and Air) held the Kason Maha Bodhi tree water-pouring ceremony for 1388 ME for the 11th time at Maha Bodhi trees in Lawka Chantha Hsutaungpyae Association’s Pagoda in Zeyathiri Township yesterday afternoon.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services and Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Kyaw Swa Lin and his wife Daw Nang Kue Ku, Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Admiral Htein Win and his wife, Commander-in-Chief (Air) Lt-Gen Tun Win and his wife, Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) Lt-Gen Ko Ko Oo and his wife, senior Tatmadaw officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief and their wives, the commander of Nay Pyi Taw Command and his wife, Tatmadaw members and families.
The General and his wife paid homage to the pagoda of the association with oil lights, flowers and water.
The General and his wife, together with senior Tatmadaw officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief and their wives, and Tatmadaw members and families, pouered water at the banyan trees and sprinkled scented water.
The full moon day of Kason is one of the significant days for Buddhists. Moreover, the month of Kason is the hottest period of the summer season. Therefore, scented water is sprinkled and offered to Bodhi banyan trees to keep them from withering and to keep them cool, in reverence to the Bodhi tree under which the Buddha attained enlightenment. — MNA/TTA
