A project to support the well-being and safety of earthquake-affected children in Myanmar, funded by the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund (GDSSCF) and implemented by UNICEF, has been launched, according to the Embassy of China to Myanmar.
The launch ceremony was held in Yangon on 2 April and was attended by Counsellor Ouyang Daobing from the Chinese Embassy, UNICEF Deputy Representative to Myanmar Ms Julia Rees, and relevant officials.
Counsellor Ouyang Daobing said the Chinese Embassy is willing to further deepen cooperation with UNICEF to ensure the project achieves greater results and brings more benefits to children in disaster-affected areas.
Similarly, UNICEF Deputy Representative Ms Julia Rees expressed appreciation for China’s support, noting that UNICEF will continue to cooperate closely with the Chinese Embassy and utilize its strengths to ensure the project meets its intended outcomes.
The project will provide safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene supplies, as well as child protection support and services for earthquake-affected children and their families in Myanmar. It is expected to benefit approximately 116,000 people.
