A total of 42 road traffic accidents occurred on the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway between 1 January and 19 March 2026, according to the Expressway Police Headquarters.
During this period, 26 people lost their lives, and 46 others were injured as a result of these accidents.
“A total of 16 accidents were recorded in January 2026, another 16 in February, and 10 up to 19 March, making 42 accidents in total,” said an official from the Expressway Police Headquarters.
The majority of accidents on the expressway were reportedly caused by speeding, careless driving, and drowsy driving.
The Yangon-Mandalay Expressway was opened in December 2010 and is 587 kilometres in length.
