THE advancement of technology brings both benefits and drawbacks. In addition to global news and information, IT experts and organizations are continuously developing and producing the best applications, games, and content related to digital technology each year.
On various digital platforms, new technologies continue to emerge, and new and exciting games that interest young people are appearing rapidly. In the era of technology, young people and mobile phones, as well as applications and games, are closely connected. While games can have positive effects, they can also have negative impacts and potentially foster undesirable habits within social interactions.
Some young people move from casually playing ordinary games to playing gambling-supporting games, and in some cases, they even become involved in criminal activities in the real world. On social media, virus-themed games and war games that appeared around 2012 are games in which players mindlessly follow violent actions, and they have encouraged addictive behaviours among young players.
Anyone can now search for various types of games online using technology. Some experts have even designed games for young people to be engaging, often incorporating attractive visuals and features. Through these games, it is possible to estimate how much they have influenced young people and communities worldwide, including in Myanmar. In recent times, the rise of gambling, criminal behaviour, and violence among youth shows that inappropriate games have affected and tarnished the purity of young people’s minds.
Games are often played by young people for entertainment and enjoyment, but caution is needed when playing games that could be dangerous. Currently, games that encourage violent behaviour are emerging among youth. Whether these games are created, advertised, or used in any form, they are prohibited under the law on the prevention of violence.
In this era of advancing and changing technology, it is not wrong for games to be created to entertain people, especially young people. However, caution is needed when games are designed to go beyond ordinary entertainment and amusement, potentially influencing players’ attitudes and character in negative ways.
In addition to gambling games and games that encourage criminal behaviour, violent games depicting brutal acts have also emerged. Considering the recent increase in violent incidents between individuals and groups, this is a matter of concern. For this reason, the relevant authorities take measures to block and prohibit such games. Therefore, both young people themselves and their parents or guardians need to avoid games that could negatively affect their mindset or harm themselves and their surroundings.
