In Yaksawk, Shan State (South), heavy rainfall caused the Zawgyi River to overflow, resulting in flash floods in Zawgyi Ward and Uttantar Ward. Meanwhile, flooding of the Kalaw Creek in Kalaw inundated low-lying houses in Wards 2, 3 and 4.
Yesterday morning, Tatmadaw members of the Eastern Command, Myanmar Police Force members, Myanmar Fire Brigade personnel, Red Cross members, social organizations and relevant departmental officials jointly carried out rescue and relief operations for residents affected by the flooding. The residents were transported to safety using rescue boats and Tatmadaw vehicles.
As part of the relief efforts, flood-affected residents in Yaksawk were evacuated to the Zawgyi sports hall and Uttantar religious hall, while those affected in Kalaw were relocated to the Myoma Pariyatti Monastery in Ward No 5.
Officials from the Eastern Command and relevant departments provided food and drinking water to the flood-affected residents at the temporary shelters.
Mobile medical teams from the local Tatmadaw hospital have established temporary flood-relief camps and are providing health examinations and medical treatment to residents affected by the flooding.
