Rescue and rehabilitation operations are being implemented in the areas facing extensive loss and damage caused by the Mandalay earthquake.
Yesterday, Lt-Gen Thet Pon from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) inspected the rapid removal of earthquake-damaged religious buildings at the Sakkadhita Nunnery in Thawtapan Ward, Sagaing, using heavy machinery; the demolition of the earthquake-damaged three-story building at No 1 Basic Education High School in Poetan Ward; the construction of a new building to house a water purifier and the completion of cleaning and beautification work at the school; the removal of collapsed and damaged religious buildings at the Yadanabeikman Htupayon Shwe Monastery in Minlan Ward using heavy machinery; the clearing of religious buildings at the Rajamanicula Pagoda in City Ward, which was destroyed by the earthquake; and the reconstruction of the pagoda, while coordinating with authorities as needed.
Lt-Gen Myo Thant Naing from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) inspected the completion of a modular container house serving as a temporary office at the railway yard in Kyaukse, reviewed the status of office operations, and instructed officials to maintain a clean and attractive station environment, remove garbage along the railway tracks, and organize garbage bins systematically.
He inspected earthquake damage at No 7 Textile Factory (Myittha) in Lankhwa Village, Myittha Township, reviewed the status of yarn and cotton fabric production, assessed the completion of the temporary school building at Basic Education High School (Kume), and instructed officials to maintain a clean and attractive school environment to support effective student learning.
He inspected and coordinated the provision of cement, steel bars, and plywood sheets at special factory prices for reconstructing pagodas, religious buildings, and residential structures damaged by the earthquake in Myittha Township, as well as assessed earthquake damage at the Gwegyi Monastery in Kume and the progress of reconstruction efforts.
