5th Waxing of Nayon 1387 ME 31 May 2025
1. Tatmadaw has stated a temporary ceasefire from 6 to 31 May 2025 with the aim of leveraging rescue, relief and rehabilitation operations in the areas affected by the powerful Mandalay earthquake, leaving extensive loss and damage.
2. Currently, the government is tirelessly carrying out reconstruction and rehabilitation measures for quake-affected government offices and departments, public houses and road transportation facilities with the assistance of the international communities.
3. Moreover, the State emphasizes preparations to hold a free and fair multiparty democratic general election without fail this year under the Constitution. During the electoral period, peace and stability must be restored in relevant regions to enable all eligible people of the entire nation to cast their votes.
4. As such, for the State to continue implementing reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts in the earthquake-stricken areas with momentum, to successfully hold a free and fair multiparty democratic election, to more swiftly serve the interests of the State and all its citizens, to restore a genuine and durable peace, and to maintain peace and stability, Tatmadaw has announced a further extension of the temporary ceasefire period from 1 to 30 June 2025.
5. During the declared period of the temporary ceasefire, ethnic armed organizations and other armed groups are urged not to disrupt or attack and destroy communication routes used by the general public, cause harm or destruction to the lives and property of the people, attack camps of security personnel serving security and rule of law measures, disrupt and attack military headquarters, recruit or mobilize forces that could undermine peace, engage in preparations or territorial expansion. It is also announced that if such actions are carried out, Tatmadaw will take necessary response measures as part of protecting the public.
