A total of 456 foreign nationals involved in online gambling and telecom fraud in Myawady’s Shwe Kokko, Maethawtalay, and KK Park areas of Kayin State were deported yesterday.
These individuals had illegally entered Myanmar through border routes after transiting through neighbouring countries, including Thailand. Authorities have also identified and detained 100 more individuals for further investigation.
The deportation process was conducted with officials from relevant countries, including Kayin State Minister for Security and Border Affairs Colonel Min Thu Kyaw, Deputy Director-General Mr Liu Ning Ning of the Criminal Investigation Bureau under China’s Ministry of Public Security and Director Ploen Klinpayom from Thailand’s Tak Provincial Immigration Bureau. Myanmar authorities handed over the necessary documentation to officials from the respective countries in an orderly manner.
Myanmar authorities have identified and detained a total of 4,342 foreign nationals who entered the country illegally between 30 January and 6 March 2025. Among them, 1,213 individuals have already been deported to their respective countries via Thailand under legal procedures, while preparations are underway to deport the remaining 3,129 individuals. They are currently being held under proper supervision.
The detained individuals include nationals from China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Pakistan, India, Uganda, Ethiopia, Nepal, Thailand, Japan, Rwanda, Kenya, Kazakhstan, Cambodia, Ghana, Bangladesh and Chinese Taipei. The majority of those detained are Chinese nationals.
