Indonesia Expo 2026 will introduce opportunities for Myanmar students to access scholarships offered by seven higher education institutions in Indonesia.
The expo will be held at Novotel Yangon Max in Yangon on 30 and 31 October. The seven Indonesian higher education institutions taking part are Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), BINUS University, Sampoerna University, President University, Universitas Widyatama, Institut Teknologi dan Sains Bandung (ITSB) and Universitas Negeri Malang. Sekolah Indonesia Yangon (SIY) and Indonesian International School (IISY), both based in Yangon, will also participate.
At the expo, representatives of the Indonesian higher education institutions will explain their respective academic programmes, admission requirements, languages of instruction, tuition fees, living costs and support services for international students. Particular emphasis will be placed on introducing scholarship opportunities.
A student currently studying at Indonesian International School (IISY) in Yangon received a full scholarship to study at President University for the current academic year. This is expected to help Myanmar students gain greater access to similar opportunities.
In addition, a programme to introduce educational opportunities through direct meetings between the participating universities and international schools in Yangon will take place on 29 October. Universitas Widyatama and the University of Foreign Languages in Yangon are also planning to sign a cooperation agreement.
Approximately 6,000 international students are studying at universities across Indonesia. Top public universities, including Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and the University of Indonesia (UI), host some of the largest numbers of international students.
More than 1,000 international students are studying at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). Popular fields of study among international students include cultural and social studies, economics and management, medicine, dentistry, Indonesian language and culture studies (BIPA), and international relations. — ASH/KNN
