A total of 3,000 hot-air balloons will be released as a special attraction during the upcoming Thadingyut Festival in the Bagan Cultural Heritage Region, home to Myanmar’s rich cultural heritage. The original plan to release 30,000 balloons has been scaled down to 3,000, according to reports.

During the Thadingyut Festival, which marks the start of the tourist season in Bagan, the cultural heritage region usually attracts large numbers of domestic and international visitors from across the country and abroad. This year’s festival will feature displays and sales of traditional Upper Myanmar foods, handicrafts, souvenir clothing, locally produced goods, a variety of agricultural tools and other consumer products.

Although preparations were initially made to release 30,000 balloons during the festival, the number has been reduced to 3,000 for safety reasons. As the balloons will be released at night, their launch must take into account wind conditions and ensure sufficient distance from villages, pagodas, stupas and temples.

A total of 1,000 balloons will be released each day over three days from three locations. Residents, firefighters, municipal staff and social organisations will work together to carry out the releases.
