REGARDING elevated temperatures, Bago Region Chief Minister U Myo Swe Win emphasized to prepare heat-stress prevention measures such as cooling centres and awareness campaigns, in order not to affect humans and animals, in a meeting with district and township administrative committee chairs on 7 October.

This is the rain-fed crops harvest season; however, due to the severe impact of El Niño, the cultivation of winter crops is needed to start in time before the soil moisture decreases so that expected crop yields can be achieved, and irrigation channels are also needed to be prepared in time to ensure efficient use of water for cultivation, he said. For food security, livestock farms will need to follow expanded livestock plans on a monthly basis, and families will also need to grow their own farms for culinary crops, he urged.

Agriculture and irrigation industries will need to maintain the momentum, and for job opportunity growth in the region, necessary support for the sustainable development of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) is required, said the chief minister.
