THE 11th-day meeting of the third regular session of the Third Pyithu Hluttaw took place yesterday at the Hluttaw Building in Nay Pyi Taw, attended by Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker U Khin Yi, Deputy Speaker U Maung Maung Ohn, and MPs. During the session, deputy ministers answered six questions concerning telecommunications and healthcare infrastructure, and the parliament debated and recorded one motion regarding the domestic banking sector.

Responding to a query on mobile internet connectivity in Taungdwingyi Township, Deputy Minister for Digital Development and Communications U Thet Win Aung stated that 158 mobile stations and five FTTH internet service providers currently serve the township. He added that the ministry will conduct field inspections to expand fibre services and plans to repair damaged telecom towers, mobile equipment, and generators as soon as local security conditions permit.

Deputy Minister for Health Dr Aye Tun answered questions regarding healthcare facilities across several townships. For Mindon Township Hospital, essential building repairs will be funded under the 2026-2027 financial year’s recurrent budget, with a new two-storey extension scheduled for the 2027-2028 financial year. In Bogale Township, a replacement 100 mA digital X-ray machine was installed at Kadonkani Station Hospital on 24 September 2026 and began operations on 29 September. At Sahmaw Station Hospital in Mogaung Township, coordination is underway with the Kachin State government to reassign a medical doctor within two months following restored regional stability. Dr Aye Tun also reported that construction of the three-storey extension at Nyaungdon Township Hospital is proceeding under the Ministry of Construction, with patient treatment wards set for completion in the 2026-2027 financial year, auxiliary works and lift installations planned for 2027-2028, and medical services slated to commence in 2028. Regarding Mongshu Township Hospital, he noted that an assistant surgeon will be appointed within 2026, modern diagnostic laboratory equipment will be supplied this fiscal year to accompany an already delivered digital X-ray unit, and upgrading bed capacity from 25 to 50 will be considered in line with service developments.

Following the question-and-answer session, MPs debated a motion submitted by U Aye Chan from the Hlinethaya (East) Constituency urging the government to reduce the number of domestic banks to foster stronger, higher-calibre institutions. Supporting lawmakers argued that larger, globally competitive banks would enhance lending to MSMEs and strengthen economic development. Other MPs cautioned that market forces rather than arbitrary reductions should drive consolidation, emphasizing that safeguarding individual bank stability, public deposits, and regular financial operations must take precedence over reducing numbers, particularly to avoid rattling public trust during a stable financial period.
