THE 2026 World Teachers’ Day ceremony was held yesterday at the Convocation Hall of the University of Yangon.
At the event, Union Minister for Education Dr Chaw Chaw Sein read out the message sent by President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Agga Maha Thray Sithu Agga Maha Thiri Thudhamma U Min Aung Hlaing.
A joint message from the heads of four UN agencies was also read by Dr May San Yi, Rector of the Yangon University of Foreign Languages.
Honours and certificates were presented to distinguished and outstanding teachers, as well as winners of essay, poem and article competitions held to mark World Teachers’ Day. A total of 66 teachers and students, including 10 distinguished teachers and five outstanding teachers, received awards.
In the afternoon, the Union minister attended and opened the Area Studies Centre at the Centre for Research and Innovation (CRI), University of Yangon, and the China Studies Conference 2026. She also inspected the centre together with the Indian ambassador to Myanmar, representatives from the Chinese and Korean embassies, senior officials and university rectors.
She also inspected the Department of Myanmar Examinations (Yangon), where she reviewed the implementation of the online booking system for the systematic issuance of mark sheets and certificates, the preservation of examination records, and gave necessary instructions.
