PYITHU HLUTTAW Speaker and Vice-Chairman of the Myanmar Parliamentary Union (MPU) U Khin Yi met representatives of the Yangon Region Hluttaw at the Nawarat Hall of the Yangon Region Hluttaw Office yesterday.
During the meeting, U Khin Yi emphasized the need for greater coordination among Union-level, Region and State Hluttaws in accordance with the Constitution and relevant laws. He urged Hluttaw representatives to actively address the needs and concerns of their constituents while ensuring that parliamentary proceedings are conducted in line with laws and procedures.
He also highlighted the importance of strengthening the legislative pillar, keeping laws in line with current conditions, and sharing the five-year strategic plan for parliamentary development with Region and State Hluttaws.
He continued that the Hluttaw has established the Myanmar Parliamentary Union (MPU), and it is continuously studying the needs of Region and State Hluttaws so that it can provide support and assistance where necessary. Hluttaw representatives also need to actively work for the benefit of the constituents and the country, while ensuring that the work is carried out in accordance with the law and relevant procedures. Hluttaw is a legislative body composed of public representatives elected and entrusted by the people of their respective constituencies in accordance with the will of the people.
He said lawmaking is the primary responsibility of the Hluttaw and that laws should be continuously amended, supplemented and enacted to ensure the safety and well-being of citizens. He stressed the need to review current conditions and enact laws in line with the times.
He also urged Hluttaw representatives to accurately reflect public concerns in questions and proposals, use officially recognized terminology, and remain well informed about the constituencies and voters’ needs so that these concerns can be addressed effectively.
He called on Yangon Region Hluttaw representatives to use social and news media to inform the public about parliamentary activities and to listen to public concerns, particularly regarding the rule of law, safe travel and effective drainage, highlighting Yangon’s importance as an economic hub.
