While striving to achieve success for their team, athletes should be happy when they win, but also learn to accept defeat and demonstrate good sportsmanship, said Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services General Ye Win Oo at the opening of the Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) Sports Competitions 2026 at the Zeyathiri Tatmadaw Stadium in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday afternoon.
The General remarked that athletes should also carry with them throughout their lives the conviction that, with good discipline and unity, they can confidently compete against any kind of opponent, and put this principle into practice.
Chairman of the Tatmadaw Sports and Physical Education Administration Body Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Zaw Hein and Commander of the Nay Pyi Taw Command Maj-Gen Kyi Thaik cut the ribbon to open the competitions.
The sports teams led by the parade commander saluted the General and left the stadium.
The General and party watched a second-round group match between the Camp Commandant’s Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) and the Yangon Command teams at the Defence Services Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy Football Tournament.
Although both sides played under pressure against each other in an effort to secure a favourable result, the team representing the Yangon Command was able to dominate possession through well-coordinated play and an effective game plan. At the final whistle, the Yangon Command team defeated the team of the Camp Commandant’s Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) 2-1.
