ACCORDING to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yangon and Wuhan signed a Letter of Intent to establish sister-city relations during the 2026 Wuhan International Friendship Cities Cooperation Conference and the 2026 Global Mayors Dialogue, held in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China.
At a ceremony marking the establishment of sister-city relations between Yangon and Wuhan, Yangon Mayor U Myo Myint Aung and Wuhan Mayor Mr Xiong Zheng Yu signed the Letter of Intent to establish sister-city relations between Yangon, Myanmar, and Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. Similarly, relevant representatives signed Memoranda of Understanding on international friendship city cooperation between Wuhan and Turkistan City in the Turkistan Region of Kazakhstan, Christchurch in New Zealand, Markham in Canada, Tijuana in Mexico, Wuhan’s Dongxihu District and Mbour in the Thiès Region of Senegal, Wuhan’s Wuchang District and Keszthely in Hungary, and Wuhan’s Qiaokou District and Gyenesdiás in Hungary.
During the 2026 Global Mayors Dialogue, discussions focused on three main topics: promoting urban development through technological innovation, expanding urban openness through industrial cooperation, and improving quality of life through cultural exchange. The Mayor of Wuhan, the Mayor of Yangon, Myanmar, the Lord Mayor of Manchester, England, the Chairperson of the City Council of Kemi, Finland, the City Manager of Cape Town, South Africa, the Mayor of Rzeszów, Poland, and the Mayor of Turkistan, Kazakhstan, participated in the dialogue and exchanged views on the topics, according to reports.
