Intellectual Property Department has accepted industrial design registration since 1 February 2024 and has received over 700 applications, issuing more than 350 registration certificates.
An awareness seminar on industrial design rights for small and medium-sized enterprise operators was held virtually on 18 September at the Intellectual Property Department’s Office located at No 52 in Nay Pyi Taw.
As technology advances in today’s business landscape, product quality alone is no longer sufficient for market success. Shape, colour, and design innovation have also become key factors influencing buyer decisions. Integrating design innovation into their business strategies, from jewellery and furniture to packaging and everyday items, is required, the Director-General emphasized.
The department has conducted awareness seminars for MSMEs, the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Mandalay Region Chambers of Commerce and Industry, and universities and colleges across regions and states since 2023.
He encouraged business operators to secure Intellectual Property protection for their product designs, which would enable legal action against imitation and open opportunities for licensing or transferring designs.
The seminar was attended by the directorgeneral, deputy directorsgeneral, directors, and officials from the Intellectual Property Department, along with approximately 80 MSME entrepreneurs from Nay Pyi Taw, Bago Region, and Magway Region.
