THE National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) and the Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS) met yesterday morning at the Horizon Lake View Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw. The meeting followed an invitation issued by the Central Committee for prerequisite-free peace talks aimed at resolving political issues through political means.
The event was attended by key leadership from both sides, including NSPNC Chairman Lt-Gen Yar Pyae and Secretary Lt-Gen Min Naing, and RCSS Secretary 1 Sao Sai Ngin, Central Executive Committee member Sao Aung Tein and Sao Lan Taing, Central Steering Committee members, and other relevant officials. Speaking at the meeting, Lt-Gen Yar Pyae said peace is essential for promoting economic development and national stability.
He noted that all ethnic armed organizations had been invited to participate in peace talks without preconditions and stressed the importance of continued dialogue, implementation of previous agreements and building mutual trust through regular communication. RCSS Secretary 1 Sao Sai Ngin welcomed the government’s invitation for peace talks. He said trust is crucial to the peace process and called for continued efforts to enable displaced people to return home and support rehabilitation, education, healthcare, transport and regional development.
He also expressed the RCSS’s willingness to cooperate in combating illicit drugs and online scams. The two sides also discussed the future peace process, RCSS organizational matters, resolving political issues through political means, the return and rehabilitation of displaced persons, regional development and stability, administrative matters, trust-building measures, and cooperation in combating drug trafficking and online fraud. NSPNC Secretary LtGen Min Naing explained the plans of the government for the opening of vocational training schools in different regions and states. The event concluded with both parties signing a formal record of the discussions and exchanging commemorative gifts.
