The high-level Myanmar delegation led by President U Min Aung Hlaing left Techo International Airport in Phnom Penh for Siem Reap by special aircraft at 10:15 am local standard time yesterday.
The President and party were seen off at the airport by senior officers from the Cambodian government led by Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology Mr Thor Chetha and officials.
Members of the Cambodian Guard of Honour took positions on both sides of the red carpet and rendered a salute, while a Cambodian girl presented a bouquet. Students and young people warmly bid farewell by waving small national flags of the two countries and holding photos of President U Min Aung Hlaing and His Majesty King Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia.
At Siem Reap Angkor International Airport in Siem Reap, the President and party were warmly welcomed by Governor of Siem Reap Mr Prak Sophoan, a representative from the Ministry of the Royal Palace of Cambodia and the Senator.
The Governor of Siem Reap paid a courtesy call on the President at the hotel where the Myanmar delegation stays.
At the meeting, they cordially discussed that the Angkor Archaeological Park in Siem Reap Province is a UNESCO-listed site with numerous valuable ancient cultural heritage sites comparable to the Bagan Archaeological Zone in Myanmar. They also talked about the ways to promote tourism between Siem Reap and Bagan, and the need for Cambodia to provide care and protection to Myanmar citizens working in the tourism and service sectors in Siem Reap in accordance with Cambodian laws.
