MYANMAR’S Tatmadaw yesterday held a ceremony in Nay Pyi Taw to honour Tatmadaw members and children of military personnel and veterans who achieved outstanding results in the 2025-2026 matriculation and industrial, agricultural and livestock university entrance examinations.
The ceremony was held at Zeyathiri Beikman and attended by Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services General Ye Win Oo and his wife, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Kyaw Swa Lin and his wife, senior military officials and their spouses, Union ministers, school administrators, teachers, students, Tatmadaw members and parents.
A total of 53 students were recognized for earning distinctions in six subjects, while 120 received distinctions in five subjects. Another 29 students received outstanding student awards. Tatmadaw personnel who earned distinctions in one, two, or three subjects were also honoured. Military basic education and military education schools with strong examination results were recognized as well. In remarks at the ceremony, General Ye Win Oo said the annual awards were intended to recognize students’ hard work, perseverance and academic achievements.
He urged the award recipients to continue their studies at higher education institutions and to choose fields of study according to their interests, saying this could contribute to both their future careers and the country. The General also addressed the growing use of mobile phones and social media among young people. He said widespread access to social media had increased exposure to false and misleading information, which could lead some young people to develop misguided views and make harmful decisions.
He called on parents to supervise their children’s use of social media. General Ye Win Oo also encouraged young people to read regularly, saying books could help develop their knowledge, skills, critical thinking and decision-making abilities. He said the Tatmadaw was working to improve educational opportunities for both service members and their families.
Military education schools have been established for personnel, while programmes for military families are being carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Education.
Two military youth education schools have also been opened in Nay Pyi Taw and Yangon for the 2026-2027 academic year. The schools are open to children of serving and retired military personnel, as well as others interested in the military’s education programmes.
During the ceremony, General Ye Win Oo and senior military officials presented medals, awards and certificates to outstanding students, Tatmadaw members and representatives of high-performing schools. The event concluded with a reception attended by award recipients, their families and teachers, along with musical performances by artistes from the Myawady music troupe.
